The Power of Weakness
God has blessed each of us with many gifts, but physical size and strength are not on my list! Healthy, yes - robust, no. As an adult I've always taken little breaks throughout the day to recharge my batteries. Some years ago, when a minister was teaching a group of us to meditate, I began using these "time-outs" to try to listen to the Lord. I believe this was easier for me than for some, since it fit right into my existing "schedule." I had often envied those who could go all day. They seemed to be able to accomplish so much! But what I once saw as my weakness has now become my great strength. Having prayer "recess" throughout the day helps keep actions more on target. You are better able to focus on what you're doing, how you're doing it, and even if you should be doing it. Perhaps, when you don't range far and wide, you tend to just go "deeper." Often I rummage around in the cellar, the dark recesses of self, and find things that need to be brought up to the Light, "aired out," or discarded completely. Oddly enough, being still offers lots more time to "clean house."
Psalm 46.10 - Be still and know that I am God.
Psalm 4.4 - Lie quietly upon your bed in silent meditation.
Psalm 139.3 - You see me whether I am working or resting; you know all my actions.
Hebrews 4.13 - There is nothing that can be hid from God; everything in all creation is exposed and lies open before his eyes.
Proverbs 20.27 - The Lord gave us mind and conscience; we cannot hide from ourselves.
Psalm 51.6 - Behold, you look for truth deep within me, and will make me understand wisdom secretly.
Psalm 138.3 - When I pray, you answer me and encourage me by giving me the strength I need.
Matthew 26.41 - The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.
2 Corinthians 12. 5 - I am going to boast only about how weak I am and how great God is to use such weakness for his glory.
2 Corinthians 10.7 - The trouble with you is that you look at me and I seem weak and powerless, but you don't look beneath the surface.
Ephesians 1.19 - I pray you will begin to understand how incredibly great his power is to help those who believe him.
1 Corinthians 1.25 - God's weakness is stronger than human strength.
2 Corinthians 12.9-10 - "My grace is enough for you: my power is at its best in weakness." So I shall be very happy to make weakness my special boast, so that the power of Christ may stay over me, and that is why I am quite content with my weaknesses. For it is when I am weak that I am strong.
