The Walk

As those birthdays keep piling up, it seems one has to work harder just to stay even. My husband and I decided to start walking again in the evenings, and to do it together for companionship and "moral support." But when you walk with someone who is stronger and whose legs are longer, paces just don't match up. We start at the same place at the same time, and we both wind up back home, but I think he goes about three times as far! Whenever he gets a bit ahead, he justs turns around and heads back, way back, before resuming the forward trek. This way we are seldom out of each other's sight . Quite literally, he's walking rings around me, always checking, very much like "riding herd!" Well, who wouldn't love a guy like that? And who wouldn't love a God like that? The Lord knows we can never keep pace with him, so He falls back to help us along and watch over our progress. We are never out of his sight! Our constant guide, companion, and protector, He shepherds us through this walk in life, along our journey in faith, until he can get us safely back "home."

Luke 13.33 - I must walk today, and tomorrow, and the day following.

Isaiah 2.5 - Come, let us walk in the light of the Lord.

Isaiah 40.31 - They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

1 Timothy 4.7-8 - Spend your time and energy in the exercise of keeping spiritually fit. Bodily exercise is all right, but spiritual exercise is much more important. So exercise yourself spiritually and practice being a better Christian, because that will help you not only now in this life, but in the next life too.

Hebrews 12.1,12 - Let us strip off anything that slows us down or holds us back, and especially those sins that wrap themselves so tightly around our feet and trip us up; and let us run with patience the particular race that God has set before us. Stand firm on your shaky legs, and make out a smooth, straight path for your feet, so that those who follow you, though weak and lame, will not fall and hurt themselves, but become strong.

Isaiah 58.11 - The Lord shall guide you continally, and satisfy you with all good things, and keep you healthy too.

Psalm 32.8 - I will instruct you, says the Lord, and guide you along the best pathway for you life; I will advise you and watch your progress.

Proverbs 4.25-26 - Let your eyes be fixed ahead, your gaze be straight before you. Let the path you tread be level and all your ways made firm.

Isaiah 30.21 - If you leave God's paths and go astray, you will hear a Voice behind you say, "No, this is the way, walk here."

Proverbs 3.6 - In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths.

Psalm 23.1,4-5 - The Lord is my shepherd. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for thou art with me.

Psalm 89.26 - You are my father and God; you are my protector and savior.

Isaiah 43.19 - I will make a road through the wilderness of the world for my people to go home.

2 Corinthians 5.7-8 - We walk by faith not by sight. We are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
