Daddy Long Legs

We treated our children with a trip to Disneyworld, when they each reached five. By that age they are old enough not to be carried, but young enough to be totally enchanted. The Magic Kingdom is quite wondrous, but not without its pitfalls. We were walking up a sidewalk somewhere between Pirates of the Caribbean and the Swiss Family Robinson's Tree House; it was crowded with young families. Suddenly there came a piercing cry from behind us, "Daddy!" Not less than six men stopped dead in their tracks in front of us and turned to see if the cry came from their own little one who might've somehow gotten separated. Lots of daddies, mamas, and children - easy to get confused. While riding on a ferry, our small daughter sought some security in the crowd and latched on to a familiar looking leg. The man she had attached herself to thought it was darling, and so did we, but feared she wasn't going to think it was so cute. Sure enough, she soon caught sight of her daddy and both his legs . It didn't take her a second to understand the implications. Realizing her mistake slowly and warily she raised her head. Even though the face belonging to that leg was a nice one and it was smiling at her, still she burst into tears; it just wasn't the right face, the right leg.

We all often misplace our trust, faith, and hope of security. Who or what are we hanging onto? Is it the right thing, the right One? Much in this world may seem all right at first glance, but it certainly won't provide that ultimate security and love that can only come from our true Father. May we all come into His Kingdom.
